Marielle has always been encouraged to express her creativity in one way or another; be it through drawing, taking photos or painting.
She discovered her love of painting after taking lessons (on a whim!) in folk and decorative art in Sydney. The techniques and skills that she learnt in these classes (among them; strokework, brush control and painting fine detail) provided a wonderful grounding for her future artistic endeavours.
A few years later, Marielle started taking lessons in watercolour painting — a medium that quickly captured her heart with its beauty, and her mind with its challenges!
Two years later she began entering her work in local art shows, the results of which can be found in the Art Show Results section of the website.
Marielle has benefited from a diverse variety of art teachers, preferring to learn from (and support) practising artists in her local communities.
She continues to learn both through the experience of creation and experimentation, as well as through books and practical workshops. With a naturally curious nature, it is as much a joy to learn about art as it is to partake in it!
In early 2019, Marielle was approached by local South Coast lifestyle magazine WhiteWash , asking if they could feature her as a local artist in their 2019 Winter issue. The 1 page pictorial feature included images of three of her pieces – wombat, echidna and major mitchell; and appeared both in the print edition and online. You can view the issue here (Marielle’s feature is on page 18): WhiteWash Issue #13
Marielle splits her time between the vibrancy of Sydney’s inner west, and the natural beauty of the South Coast of NSW, Australia. Inspired by colour, nature and animals, she also enjoys dabbling in photography — sometimes using these snaps as the basis for her artwork.
Marielle hopes that her work makes people smile and gives a feeling of happiness.
